Are You Employing A Psychopath?

This article really resonated with me and I decided to publish it in this newsletter. This must serve as a warning to all employers (and be thankful if you have never employed one) as it puts your business at the most terrible risk and it must also serve as a warning to employees who have been traumatised by a psychopath (and may you never experience it). In 25 years of me employing many staff for my own company, I have employed one psychopath (and I do hope I now know how to spot one and may I never repeat this mistake ever again). What havoc this employee reeked is almost too painful to recall! So read this and be on the alert with eyes wide open.

WHAT IS A PSYCHOPATH?

A PSYCHOPATH IS TYPICALLY A PERSON WHO IS:

1. INCAPABLE OF FEELING SYMPATHY
They simply cannot feel sorry for someone they are victimising. As a result they never show any remorse. It just does not exist for them.

2. INCAPABLE OF FEELING GUILT
They never ever feel guilty about the harm they do to other people. They have no conscience. It is difficult for a normal person to understand this. They do understand the difference between right and wrong, but this does not influence their behavior in any positive way.

3. A PATHOLOGICAL LIAR
They lie about anything and everything. Nothing they say can be taken at face value.

4. EXTREMELY MANIPULATIVE
They find ways to manipulate people around them to suit themselves. They are not above making up horrifying lies that they cannot sustain, to get what they want. They can be superb actors when it suits them.

5. PARASITIC IN NATURE
They look for ways to take what they have not earned, whether it is being financially parasitic with their partners or whether it is stealing credit for other people's work.

6. EXCEEDINGLY CHARMING
Because they are so charming, they often make fantastic impressions at interviews, giving them an above average chance of getting the job.

7. LUSTS AFTER THRILLS
They are often sexually promiscuous, regardless of whether they are in a relationship or not. Psychopaths love power. This is the ultimate thrill for them. If they don't have it, they lie about having it.

Turn The Phone Off And Get On With A Better Life
LONDON: They can be seen on the bus, tube or train, anxiously tapping their cellphone to check for e-mail and messages.

Indeed, many of us sleep with our phone by our bedside.

Now, research has found that imposing a ban on staff from checking their devices just one evening a week can lead to improvements in happiness and performance at work.

The study, by Harvard Business School, involved management consultants being banned from monitoring their work after 6pm once a week. Called "PTO" - predictable time off - the experiment was carried out on 1 400 employees of the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) over three years.

Initially, managers at BCG were wary and warned that the experiment would be halted immediately if "there was the slightest concern about the quality of BCG's work".

But those who had regular "downtime" said they found they had greater job satisfaction. They also said they found their work/life balance improved, and they became more productive.

The study found that those who turned their phones off spent more time with their families and started making future plans for their social lives instead of endlessly cancelling them or not even bothering. - Daily Mail. (The Star, Tuesday March 20 2012)

Leratong, The School We Have Chosen To Assist
Winter is soon upon us and, once again, I implore you to think of these little children who are in such desperate need of your help in any form. Their haven is this little school who do their best to give them a meal, comfort and love. As you put on another layer of clothing to ward off the nip in the air of the chilly autumn mornings, spare a thought for these kiddies.

There is a second-hand shop which sells to the community in Alex and whatever the school cannot use is sold and the money used for the good of the school. We will collect if you can't deliver.

Thank you to Matthew and Jenna Bossenger, Ethan and Chloe Nel, Danni and James Skerritt, Hannah and Benjamin Lloyd, Simon and Kim Carpenter and Catherine Moncur for their donations to Leratong this past month.

Should you wish to give a donation of money, these are Leratong's bank details:
