| Marcusbrewster Signs Sport Industry Awards 2012 |

Corporate and commercial PR agency marcusbrewster has been appointed by the London organisers Benchmark Sport to manage communications for the Virgin Active Sport Industry Awards 2012 in South Africa. The Sport Industry Awards, which take place in Johannesburg this month, recognise the off-the-field aspects of professional sport, including marketing, branding and sponsorships. Originally a UK-based event, this is the second year that the South African version of the awards will be held. The 16 Award categories will be adjudicated by a Judging Panel featuring some of the leading figures in the industry. Led by former SA rugby captain Bob Skinstad, the panel includes amongst others Gideon Sam, President of the South Africa Sports Confederation & Olympic Committee, Danny Jordaan, CEO of 2010 FIFA World Cup Organizing Committee South Africa and Nunu Ntshingila, CEO of Ogilvy South Africa. "When we think of sport, we all too often think only of our on-field heroes, who give us our regular thrills and chills," says marcusbrewster chairman Marcus Brewster. "But the Sport Industry Awards recognise not the Siphiwe Tshabalalas or the Victor Matfields of the world. Rather, they laud the unsung heroes who stand behind them: the sports agencies, the marketers, the sponsors and the PR and advertising campaigns that support a team or a sporting event meet its objectives. "Without them, our favourite sporting exponents would likely not be on our TV screens every week - and certainly would not earn the money they do, nor enjoy the high-profile success they do. There is a lot more to sporting prowess than muscle and sinew, and this is what the Sport Industry Awards seek to reward." marcusbrewster is the most awarded PR consultancy in South Africa. At the 2011 PRISM ceremony, the full-service firm set a new industry high water mark by winning 14 trophies across 11 different category specialisations. The firm was previously contracted by Benchmark to handle PR duties for the Beyond Sport Summit in Cape Town during December 2011. |
