Job Description

A busy agency in the North is looking for a Lead Designer to manage the design roll-out of campaign concepts, as well as day-to-day design requirements of the allocated brand/s.  You will also manage your assigned team of designers to ensure that work is on time, accurate and of a high design standard; and that your team of designers follow processes and procedures at all times.

Main job responsibilities

Producing artwork of the highest quality, in accordance with prescribed briefs.

Setting and maintaining a high level of output in their portfolios.

Up-skilling and acting as a mentor to their team.

Performance monitoring and management of their team.

Motivation, encouragement and recognition of their team members.

Forming a close relationship with their client service person so that the business needs of their clients are prioritised and accounted for.

Approval of all artwork undertaken by their designers to ensure quality and accuracy.

Conducting KPAs of staff within their assigned portfolio twice a year. This includes:

  • Soliciting feedback from traffic, client service and production (if necessary) in order to form a holistic picture of their performance
  • Measuring them against their job descriptions, as well as agency values
  • Identifying areas for improvement, as well as skills gaps, training needs and opportunities for growth
  • Meeting with the staff member in conjunction with the Studio Manager to discuss the above, and
  • Preparing a report for the department and HR

Education and experience

  • 3 year diploma/degree at a reputable institution essential
  • 3-5 years of experience as in an agency environment
  • 1 year experience in managing subordinate designers
  • Experience in digital and multimedia design is an advantage
  • Key competencies/skills required:
  • InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator skills are essential
  • After Effects and XD skills are advantageous
  • Good communication skills and be able to articulate their design decisions
  • Need to be able to lead, motivate and hold people to account
  • The role requires organisation and planning abilities
  • Good attention to detail
  • Reliable
